MNT 3: MNT CASE STUDY AND PRESENTATION
Please follow these guidelines when preparing your case study report. The purpose of this assignment is to see how well you can obtain and analyze patient information; identify outcomes and goals for nutritional care and develop plans for implementing patient care. An additional component to this assignment is for you to investigate related literature which will give you more information about the disease process, associated problems and treatment modalities.
Competencies for the RDN:
CRDN 1.2: CRDN 1.2: Evaluate research and apply evidence-based guidelines, systematic reviews and scientific literature in nutrition and dietetics practice.
CRDN 2.1: Practice in compliance with current federal regulations and state statutes and rules, as applicable and in accordance with accreditation standards and the Scope of Nutrition and Dietetics Practice and Code of Ethics for the Profession of Nutrition and Dietetics.

CRDN 3.1: Perform the Nutrition Care Process (a through e below) and use standardized nutrition language for individuals, groups and populations of differing ages and health status, in a variety of settings.
CRDN 3.7: Demonstrate effective communication and documentation skills for clinical and client services in a variety of formats and settings, which include telehealth and other information technologies and digital media.
Assignment:
Guidelines for the written paper:
1. Select a patient from your facility for whom you have provided nutritional care.
2. Case study must be typed and double spaced.
3. Use the case study outline below to prepare your report.
4. Literature relating to the case study should describe the etiology of the disease and medical nutrition therapy. You may also discuss similar cases, related symptoms and/or complications and treatment modalities. Please include at least 5 articles from peer reviewed journals that are pertinent to the case.
5. Proper citation in APA format.
Written reports are due the day of your presentation.
Make sure yourpaper is double-spaced with proper margins and page numbers.
Guidelines for the oral presentation:
1. The oral case presentation will be given at the seminar class. An additional oral presentation may be required at the clinical facility.
2. Prepare PowerPoint slides and provide handouts for the audience. Make sure to use a large font for PowerPoint slides (20 pt and over).
3. Presentations should last about 15 minutes with an additional 5 minutes for questions. Focus on a discussion of the disease and treatment modalities, effects of the disease and treatment on nutritional status, specific nutritional-related problems of the patient, nutritional assessment evaluation, nutrition intervention, goals and follow up. Please review one current journal article at your presentation that is pertinent to your case.
4. Presentations will be graded on the effective organization of above materials and integration with related research and nutritional care plans.
